They are pretty friendly bees. Males do not have a stinger and females only sting if squeezed. They do not work in a hive or make honey like honeybees, but they do pollinate your backyard flowers and plants. Make a “mason bee home” to invite these bees to your neighborhood.

Materials:

  • Aluminum can or similar container

  • Paper bag or cardstock paper

  • Scissors

  • Pencil

  • Tape

  • String

What to do:

  1. Wash and clean the container.

  2. Cut up the paper bag or paper into strips.

  3. Roll the paper around a pencil. Tape the ends to keep it rolled in a tube. Place each completed paper tube into your container.

  4. Continue step 3 until your container is full of paper tubes. Pack it tight!

  5. Attach the string to the container and tie it to tree that gets morning sun.
